Hey

So, I really twitch and hate the idea of sending people money just to get a printed poster of a screenshot of your character. Not when there are scads of extremely talented artists out there, willing to draw a fantastic customized version for around the same price.

With holidays coming up, I'm sure many of you would like to buy someone a sketch of their character, and likewise I'm sure there are bunches of artsy types here who could use some extra dough.

Use this post! Link your favorite artist, or yourself! And hopefully it'll be a good resource for other folks to find places they can commission a lovely bit of art. Spend your money on something -real-, and handmade and lovely, instead of what's essentially a high-grade printout :S

Mods, any chance of this being a super-speshul master post for ultimate resourceness?

A while back I did a most memorable quests post for the allies out there and got some great quest chains to finish *sniff* pamela redpath *sniff*

And since i'm plugging away at Loremaster I come to you with a query.

What quests gave you ladies the Heebie Jeebies bad?

for me it was one of the crypt quests in Terrokar, where the souls of the dead Draenei appeared. ((The Vengeful Harbringer))something about that just creeped me out like whoa.

the matthias lehner quests in icecrown are also giving me a creepy children of the corn feeling.

So...

What quests have creeped you out ladies? :D

I wake up at 1:30 am, it's my 38th birthday and I'm awake because shift work has killed my bodyclock. Various parts of my body ache, consequences of a job where heavy, unsafe lifting is sadly a fact of life.

I stare at the ceiling, thoughts running through my head, becoming more and more hate filled as I reflect on my job.

I know that this is in part the trifecta of SAD, nightshifts and a couple of months without a 'decent' job. If I could just do a call where I actually helped someone by using medical skills my mood might improve.

I lay in bed thinking about alcoholics, drunks and wimps - about how personal responsibility seems to have become an incredibly rare thing.

I'm hating myself for doing a job where the health detriments are so pronounced while serving so many people who selfishly think that the A&E and ambulance service are there just for their benefit.

I think on the last few night shifts - of the drunks that we went to. Of people who drink and drink and drink, then 'collapse' in the street - knowing that some idiot like me will come and pick them up before they get too cold (it's only pensioners and hillwalkers who die of hypothermia these days), I'll then take them to hospital where they will continue to be mollycoddled by demoralised nursing staff.

And if you aren't mollycodled enough - well, you can always complain and get someone disciplined or fired.

The government tries to prevent heavy drinking by warning people of the effects on the liver, that they might make a fool of themselves. But people don't care, that is all so very far away. After all, isn't a hangover the sign of a 'good night out'? A badge of pride to be worn in order to prove that you are 'social' and 'popular'?

I like this advert.

But I don't think that it goes far enough.

What I think we need is something that is much more immediate, something much more telling and something that acts as a deterrent to others.

It'll need an act of parliament, but Labour seem to like introducing reams of new legislation.

-----

My suggestion is this - in order to teach people that the effects of alcohol on both themselves and on society are damaging and far-reaching heavy consumers need to be taught a lesson.

When called to a drunk in the street, the ambulance crew should be allowed to beat the 'patient' up, to give them the fight of their lives, to fill them in, to give them a good shoeing and to knock seven shades of shit out of them.

This will have several effects - primarily it will act as a deterrent to people who get drunk and expect public taxes to be spent looking after them, secondly it will reduce the cachet of sporting a hangover the next day in work, thirdly it will ensure that the 'patient' actually needs the services of an A&E department, fourthly it will allow A&E staff to practice their minor (and not so minor if the ambulance crew gets carried away) injury treatments on a semi comatose patient and finally it'll help de-stress ambulance crews when they find themselves going to the umpteenth drunk of the night.

I suspect that once a person has had their nose broken a few times they may eventually get the idea that drinking in moderation is perhaps a good idea.

(Also the ambulance crew should be allowed to perform 'ABC' on the patient - taking their Access, Barclaycard and Cash. This will have the happy side effect of raising ambulance wages, and thereby raising staff morale.)

-----

I am not mad.

But I would suspect that in countries where the police are... less 'customer focussed' there is much less public drunkenness.

Perhaps a less extreme measure would be to have the ability for A&E departments to issue fixed penalty fines if the only reason that you are in the hospital is because you were drunk and incapable. I wish the police would do this, but they are fully aware that in the great scheme of things their time is better spent elsewhere, or if not ''better spent', then tied up dealing with Kylee and Jason's domestic dispute over the bottle of White Lightning.

-----

I suspect that over the next few days I'll be highlighting exactly how wasted my time at work has been - essentially being little more than a taxi driver, and worse than that a taxi driver that can't refuse a punter.

Hey ladies, this is my first time posting long time lurker. ^^
I have a question I'm hoping some of you may know the answer too. I have 2 wow accounts in my name, both are signed up to the same email addy, the one has been expired for awhile but I now want to reactivate it but I have to merge it will battle net, no problem I have battle net on my main account so I sign in and start filling out the info for the expired account and it tells me to use my log in email for my main account for this older one... umm I canceled it but I'm not sure what to do now. I was wondering if any of you have two accounts on one battle net or is it just safer to make another for that account, I want to move my 73 priest from that account to my main account but I don't want to mess them up. any advice would be very appreciated. :) thank you

Hey guys, I'm toying with writing another. But instead of having a main character that is simple and good, I'd like to write flaws into all the new characters. Big character flaws, like pride, wrath, greed, etc.

Have a peek at the following test chapter. What do you think of them? Do you like them? Do you hate them? Do you want to see them succeed? Would you rather see them fail? Are you curious enough about what will happen to them to follow along, or do you not care?

Please look it over and post a comment with your thoughts. Let me know if I should bother writing more. And if you have ideas/requests, then post those too!

So I read a couple of places that you could complete all of the Pilgrim's Harvest in one day, and as a result I waited until today to start.

I've now completed everything except Turkey Lurkey. It appears you can only obtain the Turkey Shooters with which to transform rogues into turkeys by completing the dailies. I had to use two of my dailies for the Pilgrim's Hat and Pilgrim's Dress. That left 3 for Turkey Shooters so I got my three and used them successfully. That means I have 5 rogue races left to turn into turkeys to complete the meta achievement.

Now I am worried. The calendar says the event ends at 23:59 tomorrow. I have to have 5 dailies with which to obtain 5 Turkey Shooters. I'm not sure that 5 are going to be available. I did complete 5 today but sometimes they throw you an extra one at the beginning of an event. What if I can only obtain 3 or 4 Turkey Shooters tomorrow and then I'll be a rogue or two short for the entire year?

I'm really worried! Maybe I'm missing something? How does 3 capital cities = 5 dailies?

Can anyone offer an assurance that I'll be able to complete this tomorrow? Or maybe some tips on how I can make sure I do?

Eek!

Renthead #2: Weren't you drunk last time you saw him?
Renthead #1: Yeah. That's probably why. When I'm drunk I'm more like "Oh, his hair's shiny," rather than "Wow, he has no emotion."
Renthead #2: His hair is shiny. (pause) Next time he's on as Roger, let's get drunk.

Every Wednesday, Chase Christian of Encrypted Text invites you to enter the world of shadows, as we explore the secrets and mechanics of the rogue class. This week, we talk about what's shaking for rogues on the patch 3.3 PTR.

If you've logged into WoW at any point in the past few days, chances are you've been a target of the infamous Turkey Shooter. Someone on the Blizzard World Event team decided to put us in the crosshairs during this Pilgrim's Bounty holiday season, via the Turkey Lurkey achievement. Orc and dwarf rogues are especially vulnerable, as your rarity will have people spamming trade chat with shouts of "I found one near the North Dalaran bank!"

Outside of this Thanksgiving-themed festival, there have been a ton of changes for rogues in other aspects of the game. The patch 3.3 PTR has been buzzing with new changes, affecting us from levels 1 to 80. Considering it's likely to be the last major content patch before Arthas goes down, this is Blizzard's last real attempt to finalize any balancing issues before they're pushed to Catacylsm. I believe that with a few tweaks, rogues can be more versatile than we ever have before.

Every week, Shifting Perspectives explores issues affecting druids and those who group with them. This week, we examine the issue of effective health in more depth.

We've discussed in the previous column why effective health is important; here, we're going to discuss why it's not as important as you might think if you had nothing beyond the collective opinion of the Tanking forum to go on. While this has something to do with the mob mentality of the forums themselves, it has more to do with how the concept of effective health isn't usually placed in context. Tank death on hard modes is quickly attributed to EH discrepancies, with rather less discussion on encounter mechanics, inappropriate gear, or that great but frequently unacknowledged bugaboo -- player error. It is for this that I say effective health needs to die.

What is effective health?

I neglected to put some hard numbers on this in the last article, but calculating base effective health is actually pretty simple. It's your health as modified by the damage you'll take after armor contribution (AC), or Health / (1 - AC%).

A 50,000 health tank with 25% armor contribution has 66,666.67 effective health (50,000 / 0.75).

A 50,000 health tank with 50% armor contribution has 100,000 effective health (50,000 / 0.5).

A 50,000 health tank with 75% armor contribution (the maximum functional AC) has 200,000 effective health (50,000 / .25).

Every week, Raid Rx will help you quarterback your healers to victory! Your host is Matt Low, the grand poobah of World of Matticus and a founder of No Stock UI, a WoW blog for all things UI, macro, and addon related.

A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned the idea of using spells based around procs or on-use trinkets. Now I don't know about you, but I sometimes tend to forget that I have these on-use abilities. Other times I never notice procs going off.

But first, what is a proc anyway?

A proc is short for procedure. They are events that happen when conditions are triggered. For example, Val'anyr will trigger a buff for the user when they heal players. This buff then grants the player to place shields on anyone they heal.

Warning: There's some slightly not-safe-for-work imagery at the opening of this video. I've stared pretty intently at the film. And while there's not much that would directly lead it to an "R" rating, it's still a little risque for the cubicle farm. Try to watch this one at home.

Bad Romance by Quixotica came highly recommended to me by Selserene. How could I not leap to check out a video with that kind of recommendation? When I viewed the film, I was in no way disappointed. Quixotica managed to create a breathtaking, beautiful video.

Some of the dialogue is a little funny. "Purr for daddy" has become one of my favorite joke-lines around the house, and you can imagine how much my beloved fiancee loves hearing it. But I think Quixotica created this video with that kind of satire in mind, and I think she really drove home the genre and theme of her video. It's about betrayal and hope, and she relies on a certain level of tongue-in-cheek self-awareness to keep those themes from becoming over-powering. If it had been any more over the top, it would have entered Twilight levels of angsty silliness.

Quixotica should be commended for her artistic vision, and her ability to bring together video imagery with a wonderful soundtrack. I truly hope she picks up a second installment for this video, because I'd like to see where the story goes.

We can't believe it either - Turpster has been let loose on WoW.com to bring you videos from in and around the World of Warcraft! You've heard him on the WoW Insider Show, and now see him on TurpsterVision right here on WoW.com.

So it's Black Friday for a lot of you guys out there -- Happy Thanksgiving for yesterday and yes, my Turkey was awesome thanks for asking! A day for picking up electrical bargains and stopping The Intersect falling into Fulcrum's hands -- I'll be honest, my knowledge of Black Friday stems pretty much directly from episodes of Chuck. I was lucky enough to have my latest purchase come through today and I am super stoked to be able to show you guys, Chen Stormstout!

This guys is many kinds of huge -- some say he looks like a fat Gene Simmons, I don't see that being a bad thing since The Demon is also pretty awesome (though he's no Starchild). Standing over 8" tall and weighing in at 4.5 lbs, this guy is built to impress. The detailing is beyond anything I've seen on my previous DC Unlimited figures.

Enjoy the video and pick one up if you haven't already -- I wonder how much mine is worth now that it's out of the box...

Check out more of Turpster's work, recent work like sites made for a Bristol Garden Landscaper or classic stuff from his WoW parody songs to TV previously on Massively.com, not forgetting everyone's favorite podcast 'The WoW Insider Show' and of course, TurpsterVision right here on WoW.com!

To all of you out there who have ever been in or currently are in any raiding guild, I'd like to ask a couple of questions.

Now, our raiding guild is casual, since most of us don't have the time to raid more than a couple of nights a week. But I want to know what other raiding guilds are like.

Our GM has been Puging everything under the sun, with his two brothers (GLs), trying to get better gear, and leaving their guildies to either try to get more guildies to run with them or to pug as well. I wonder if this is normal? Have any of you experienced this yourselves? He says that this is how it works in any other guild he's been in.

My logical mind says no this can't be, but am I being ignorant? To me, the guild should work on heroics, semi together, semi pugging, just to get badges and gear for raids. Then we can work through naxx to get our group used to running with each other, and getting more badges and gear. Then move onto ulduar for more badges and gear. After all this, we should be about ready for ToC and Ony. But our GM says that ulduar is too complicated and our guildies aren't able to handle that. He wants me and my husband to work on one toon (we have a couple of alts) and pug everything as well to get geared.

My issue with his ideas are, if I'm going to pug everything, why not join another guild?

So, to you oh so knowledgeable and smart people, what do you think? Give me your experiences and maybe some suggestions. I'm a GL in the guild and my husband is an officer. I've contemplated sorta guild hijacking and being a raid leader or we could both be co-leaders. Get my guildies who are frustrated into some raids. Start from the bottom and work our way up. I think they need to be given a chance.

Probably a pointless post, but have any of you felt like this? What do you do for inspiration when trying to come up with something? I have alt-itis, it usually happens after a toon recently hits 80 and then I feel the disturbing need to level more or at least create something.

I've been very angsty and conflicted about some politics in my mains' guild, so I made a cross faction alt a while back (a blood elf warlock currently specced affliction - I'm possibly the last person to actually get around to making a blood elf!) and have been having a lot of fun with her. So over the holidays, she hit Outlands and has been questing up a storm. Now overall, Hellfire is *very* abandoned, I could go long stretches without seeing anyone else, much less an Ally player. Then last night...

We learned that maybe DK's freshly released from the Scourgelands have a hard-on for attacking warlocks? )

Dude: So what's up, man?
Homeboy: Same old grind man, you?
Dude: What's up with your girl?
Homeboy, all smiley: Oh, man! She just miscarried, thank god! I couldn't be happier, dun!
Dude: Oh, yeah?
Homeboy: Yeah, it was great! Thank god!
Dude: Okay. Peace, man.
Homeboy: Still smiling, no doubt kid, one!

Tongues wagged this week as papparazzi spotted superstars Britney Ears and Hugh Jackrabbit at a romantic getaway in Tahiti, protected by their bodyguard Bruno.

Dahhhh, nothin' to see here, move along...

Well, I never, Carly R.

With all this five year anniversary stuff going on, and the new push by Blizzard for subscribers via the TV commercials and special offers, I've been thinking about what it would take for me to leave WoW. What would my point be where I quit the game, unsubscribe, and not return to playing it?

I think likely it would be a slow death. I'd log in less and less, until I found that I wouldn't log in for months at a time. At that point I'd probably be sensible and cancel my account -- although it took an inordinate amount of time for me to cancel my EQII account where I did more or less the same thing. I'd like to think this is how it'd go at least, I wouldn't want to quit in a huff over some silly bug or class change.

Of course, this is WoW, and I find myself uniquely invested in it. I've got characters with hundreds of days worth of /played on them, and I don't know yet if I could ever stop myself from being able to have immediate access to them. They are a hobby, and investment, just like a detailed model airplane or schooner. Then there's also what I do here, which gives me a little unique reason not to ever unsubscribe.

But alas, it might happen one day. And that's the topic of today's breakfast nook discussion. When will you quit playing WoW? How will you go out? With a bang or a whimper?

WL, I set foot in my first instance in three months on my Euro!Catulla reroll. I knew my DPS was going to be lulzy and rusty, but it was a bit more lulzy and rusty than I expected. I ran reg Nexus with some friends: 71 enh sham, 71 prot pally, 75 mutilate rogue, 71 disc priest, and me, 75 boomkin.

My DPS was at the bottom, at 880. I expected my husband (the rogue) to beat me, because he SHOULD be beating me (he did about 1.1k). But I thought having four levels on the other DPS (and the tank) would have counted for something. I'm trying to figure out what went wrong. My armory is here (the ghost of my US armory is here; I logged out without them but I also had the Maly staff and the t9 lookalike shoulders at the time, so I do have a basic idea of how to gear!). I've mainly been doing my old rotation--apply dots, wrath until Starfire eclipse proc. Is my problem that my crit is laughably low since I'm still a baby? Getting a lunar eclipse was rare, and a solar eclipse? Forget it, the mobs were dead by the rare time I actually managed to proc one, so eventually I'd just go back to spamming Wrath after my Lunar Eclipse ran out rather than weaving my Eclipses. There's always spamming Hurricane to pump up my numbers, but at my level, that's so hideously oomy (I did try, oh God, it hurt).

The reason I ask is because the last time I was in this position (running reg instances) I really had no grasp of my class or spec whatsoever until the start of this year and I at least now have a basic understanding of what I should be doing.

I've never leveled another character past 60 besides my main, so am I just trying to fix something I shouldn't bother fixing? Am I going to come into my own again once I ding 80 and can equip all the boe purples I've been hoarding? I guess I'm just trying to figure out whether or not this is a "leveling casters sucks" issue or a me issue, and if it's a me issue, how I can fix it. Should I be opening with with Starfire instead? I have so little haste right now. I've got a great group of instance buddies to run with (hai [info]sunrisetr!!!) and they don't mind in the slightest because they're just awesome that way, but I do feel that I could probably improve on that. I know my gear isn't enchanted, but it seems silly to when I'm 4 levels from 80 (I'm very close to 76) and I'm replacing most of it so quickly that it's a waste.

(Or am I just viewing this all with my old Raider Goggles on, when I shouldn't be?)

Hey! A note to anyone interested in buying Christmas gifts from the xkcd store: the deadline for Christmas delivery of domestic orders is December 14th. We'll continue to ship after that, but won't guarantee by-Christmas delivery. (If you haven't been to the xkcd store lately, you might want to check it out. I've got some some new stuff there!)

I couldn’t sleep so I figured I’d get a jump on the day and wake Modblog up bright and early.

Dark Freak from Luck All did the implants on this lovely lady. He didn’t include her name but I’m sure someone can suss that out for me. I can’t wait until I can make it down to South America again so I can see some of these Brazilian beauties first hand.
